I never suspected when I became a writer that choosing a title would be so very complicated! My upcoming Young Adult novel has now had more name changes than P. Diddy. But my publishers have had their final, official, ironclad editorial meeting on the topic and we now have a winner:

FLIP SIDE

I’ve been working hard on revisions to the book itself, which promises to be so thrilling, entertaining, and funny that readers will suffer convulsions and never wish to read anything else. FLIP SIDE is coming to a bookstore or library near you in AUTUMN 2009!

I’ve just finished the bulk of revisions for my Young Adult novel, to be published in the fall of 2009. My publishers did not care for my original title, so the final task of revising was to think of a new one. It remains tentative, but until further notice my next book will be titled THE PROBLEM WITH PAULETTA.

I finally mastered “Here Comes the Sun,” although I rather let the tempo get away from me. Now I need to buy a proper microphone, a high-def camera, a sound board, video editing software, and a bearskin coat (for that “ukulele hero” look).

Next book · 215 days ago

I’ve just signed the contract for my next book, an as-yet-untitled Young Adult novel that will published in 2009 by Little, Brown & Co. The story involves teenage twin sisters, celebrity obsession, bi-cultural families, crashed sports cars, and missing persons.

The title I submitted was not loved by my publisher, so my editor and I will have to come up with a new one by next fall. I always have such trouble with titles!

In other news, I’ll be visiting Ms. LePore’s third-grade writing class at Tualatin Elementary School on May 1. Thanks to Ms. and Miss Gray for arranging this!

In still other news, I hope to post a new ukulele video soon. With much effort I’ve learned a complicated new song, but so far I’ve always messed up when the camera is on! Cross your fingers!
